The fourth thing my father taught me was how to be a husband and a father. Although he was raised in a culture where there were clearly defined roles for men’s work and women’s work, he never let that stop him from helping my mother in the kitchen and around the house. As a result, his three sons grew up to help their wives with the household chores. He was a committed father who valued the time he spent with his children above all else. He always took us on vacations he couldn’t afford in order to make memories we couldn’t afford to be without. Thanks, dad, for the memories.

“My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart.”

— Proverbs 3:1 (NIV 1984)

Lord help us to be the kind of husbands and fathers our families need. Amen.
