Before his conversion Saul (later known as Paul) was a religious fanatic persecuting the Church and putting believers to death? Following his conversion he became the foremost church-planting apostle in the early church, taking the gospel to the Gentiles? He was also the author of a significant portion of the New Testament.1 Yet for all of his accomplishments he was not physically impressive or a gifted speaker. In fact, he had a physical handicap, what he referred to as a “thorn in the flesh” (2 Cor. 12:7). He writes:

“I came to you in weakness and fear…my preaching was not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power.”

— 1 Corinthians 2:3-4 (NIV)

Lord Jesus, may Your strength be made perfect in our weakness as it was in the apostle’s life. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
