I’m thinking of a desperately wounded young woman. She was barely three years old when, in a fit of rage, her father scooped her up and carried her to a nearby highway and hurled her into the path of an oncoming truck. Thankfully the truck’s huge wheels missed her tiny body, but she was left with a vivid memory of her father’s insane rage and that truck’s ugly underside. As a result, she was convinced she was unlovable. To her way of thinking, if her father didn’t love her why would anyone else love her. Suicide seemed her only way out but then she met Jesus. His love healed her memories and restored her shattered self-image.

“Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.”

— John 8:11 (KJV)

Lord Jesus heal our memories and restore our shattered self-esteem. Amen.
