The second discipline that enabled Daniel to be a man of spiritual integrity was his humility. Although the Lord used him in remarkable ways he never tried to horn in on the Lord’s glory. When the king praised him, Daniel said, “There are no wise men, enchanters, magicians, or fortune-tellers who can reveal the king’s secret. But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the future” (Daniel 2:27-28 NLT). As a result, the King declared, “Surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings” (Daniel 2:47 NIV 1984).
“God gives strength to the humble but sets himself against the proud and haughty.”
— James 4:6 (TLB)
Lord help us to walk humbly before you. Amen.
