If life is to be meaningful and fulfilling we must have a reason for living, something we believe in enough to die for it. William James, the noted psychologist said, “The only truly happy people I know are those who have found a cause to live for which is greater than themselves.” For the apostle Paul that cause was Christ and he declared, “to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).

“I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me.”

— Acts 20:24

Lord Jesus, deliver us from the trap of living only for ourselves. Give us a reason for living, a holy obsession. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
