It isn’t easy to still my noisy heart or to quiet my anxious thoughts. But with determined deliberateness, I do the things that have worked in the past. I brew a cup of coffee. I light the kerosene lamp in my study. I force myself to sit and be still. Bit by bit I feel the tensions slip away. The noise of the world is pushed back for a little while. Even the discordant voices within grow quiet. Out of the silence, He speaks in a still small voice and my soul is renewed.
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says….”
— Revelation 2:11
Lord Jesus, help us to quiet the noisy voices within that we might hear Your still small voice. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
