Sometimes it is hard for us to forgive those who have hurt us because they have never apologized, never acknowledged any wrongdoing, and never sought our forgiveness. The fact that they have never apologized or sought our forgiveness should never keep us from forgiving them. It may also be hard to forgive them because it feels like we are letting them off the hook. It feels like they will never have to give an account for the hurtful things they have done. Isn’t that what Jesus did for us? Didn’t He forgive us and let us off the hook?
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God… Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger…forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
— Ephesians 4:30-32 (NIV)
Lord forgive us for demanding an apology before we forgive those who have wronged us. Amen.
