If we look at our circumstances—i.e. the rate of inflation, the state of the economy, and our limited resources—we may decide we cannot afford to give the Lord the first fruits—that is the tithe. If we do that it means we think our needs take precedence over the Lord’s command. It also means we don’t trust the Lord to provide for us. Make no mistake, our lack of faith and our disobedience will cut us off from the Lord’s favor and His provision. Deuteronomy 28 says:
“Because you did not obey the Lord your God and observe the commands he gave you…you will be cursed…”
— Deuteronomy 28:45, 16 (NIV 1984)
Lord, forgive our disobedience and increase our faith. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
