Although I have been a believer since early childhood, I have to confess that I find it impossible to live a sinless life. As I have matured in the Lord, the more obvious sins—lust, anger, and materialism—have fallen away, but the more subtle sins of the heart—envy, pride, and self-righteousness—have dug in their heels. I take hope because the security of my salvation is not dependent on my daily walk (living a sinless life) but on the finished work of Jesus Christ.
“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
— 1 John 1:8–9 (NIV)
Father God, continue Your work of grace in me until I am fully conformed to the image of Your dear Son. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
