For all of God’s careful preparation Moses’ first attempt to deliver Israel ended in a mess. In a fit of temper, he killed an Egyptian who was mistreating a Hebrew (Exodus 2:12). Acts 7:25 declares, “Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not.” When Pharaoh discovered what Moses had done, he tried to kill him, but Moses fled to Midian where he lived as a fugitive on the backside of the desert for the next forty years (Exodus 2:15). To our way of thinking that should have been the end of the story, but God was just getting started!
“He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel.”
— Psalm 103:7 (NIV 1984)
Lord, grant us the faith to believe You can redeem our worst mistakes. Amen.
