Sooner or later we are all faced with the choice of pleasing God or people. Pleasing God rather than others can be hard, even painful at times, but it is what the Lord requires. If Christ and His kingdom are not worthy of our absolute allegiance and our uncompromising obedience, how can we ever expect others to choose Him? Commitment, not compromise, is what brings those we love to Christ. I’ll be the first to admit that it doesn’t work every time, but if it doesn’t work, nothing else will either.

Well-meaning family members can be your worst enemies. If you prefer father or mother over me, you don’t deserve me. If you prefer son or daughter over me, you don’t deserve me.

— Matthew 10:36-37 (MSG)

Lord Jesus, deliver me from my obsession to please people rather than You. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
