While straightening up the modest sanctuary following a Sunday morning service, the pastor discovered a crumpled sheet of paper, on which had been written in a childish scrawl, “Do you love me?”
That’s the question that brings us to church, isn’t it? “God, do You really love me? Do You love me with all my warts and human frailties? Do You love me even though I’m dragging a lifetime of ratty failures behind me? Do You love me even though You know the worst about me? Do You really love me?”
“ ‘I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.’ ”
— Jeremiah 31:3 (NLT)
Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me even though I don’t deserve it. Help me to trust Your love no matter what life may bring my way. In Your holy name I pray, amen.
