Overconfidence was the first step leading to Peter’s denial of Jesus was overconfidence. Although Jesus warned him Peter boldly declared, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you” (Matthew 26:35).
Famous last words!
What about you? Has overconfidence taken you to the edge of the precipice? Don’t make the same mistake Peter made. Instead of boldly proclaiming your invincibility admit your weakness and call on the name of the Lord.
“Because he (Jesus) himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”
— Hebrews 2:18 (NIV)
Lord Jesus, save us from overconfidence. Help us to realize that we are no match for the enemy. You are our only hope. Deliver us from temptation. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
