When the apostle tells us a person “…ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup” (1 Cor. 11:28) he means we must make sure we approach the Lord’s Table in faith recognizing that we are about to partake of the Lord’s body. Once we have discerned the Lord’s body then we should examine our life to see if there is any sin that is not under the blood. Communion is a wonderful means of grace and therefore a great time to confess our sins and receive forgiveness. Remember,
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
— 1 John 1:9 (NIV)
Lord help us to discern the truth of communion and give us the grace to receive. Amen.
