As the mourners filed past my mother’s casket at the conclusion of her funeral almost everyone stopped to console my sister. Many of them wept with her, holding her close. I couldn’t help thinking how precious friends are in the hour of our loss. The love that was heaped upon my sister didn’t just happen. It was fruit of years of friendship. If you want friends to support you in your time of crisis now is the time to build those relationships. Open your heart and your home. Don’t wait for someone else to take the lead. You do it.
“But God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us by the arrival of Titus. His presence was a joy.”
— 2 Corinthians 7:6 and 7 (NLT)
Lord help us to be encouragers to those in crisis. Amen.
