2 Corinthians 5:21 says Jesus was made to be sin for us. So how was He made to be sin? By sinning? Absolutely not! He was tempted in every way, yet He never sinned” (Hebrews 4:15)! He was made to be sin by an act of God. God took all the sins of humanity—past, present, and future—and imputed them to Him. So how are we made righteous? By living a holy life? Absolutely not! Jesus was made to be sin by an act of God and we are made righteous in the same way—by an act of God!

“…through the obedience of the one man (Jesus) the many will be made righteous.”

— Romans 5:19 (NIV 1984)

Father God, do for us what we could never do for ourselves—impute the perfect righteousness of Jesus to us and make us righteous.” Amen.
