If you are in leadership few decisions will be more critical than the ones you make as you put your team together. Over the years I have adopted a set of guidelines that I call the “Three C’s”—chemistry, character, and competence. These guidelines are not foolproof but they are definitely helpful so let’s consider them one at a time.

First chemistry: Chemistry is something that is either there or it’s not. Either your personalities “click” or they don’t. Chemistry doesn’t necessarily mean he or she is the right person for the position, but if the chemistry isn’t there that’s enough to disqualify them.

“Bring Mark with you when you come, for he will be helpful to me in my ministry.”

— 2 Timothy 4:11 (ESV)

Lord Jesus, help me to make wise decisions when putting a ministry team together. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
