Some years ago a valued ministry relationship came to a premature end. The person involved was enormously talented and seemed a perfect fit but things didn’t work out. The pastor blamed himself, thinking he had chosen the wrong man. Over and over again he asked himself how he could have missed the Lord’s leading. Finally he realized that he had not made a mistake. The man he chose was the “right” man but that man’s unwillingness to follow his leadership disqualified him and made the situation unworkable.
“Now the LORD said to Samuel, ‘You have mourned long enough for Saul. I have rejected him as king of Israel…’”
— 1 Samuel 16:1 (NLT)
Lord Jesus, thank you for helping that pastor realize that the mistake was not his. Guide him as he makes vital decisions in the future. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
