There is no way to minimize the seriousness of sin. Whether we are talking about David’s adultery, Peter’s denial of Jesus, my anger, or some other sinful failure, we must never make light of sin. The wages of sin is always death (Romans 6:23). And if ever we are tempted to think that our sin is no big thing, all we have to do is take a look at the Cross. See Jesus bleeding and dying there, alone in the darkness, abandoned by God and man. That is what God thinks of sin. It must be punished.
“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
— Isaiah 53:6
Lord Jesus, thank You for suffering the punishment for my sin that I might be forgiven. Help me to ever live worthy of Your love. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
