Recently, I was asked why we invite Jesus to be present when we worship. “Hasn’t He promised to be in your midst any time two or three gather in His name?” I responded by explaining that the abiding presence of the Lord is always present (Matthew 28:20), but we are praying for His manifest presence (Acts 16:22-26). His abiding presence sustains us. His manifest presence delivers us!

“After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.”

— Acts 4:31

Lord Jesus, I thank You for the promise of Your presence. Now manifest Your power that we may speak Your word boldly. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
