According to tradition, Mary was a peasant girl, probably thirteen or fourteen years old when she gave birth to the savior. She does not appear to have possessed any special gifts at least not until after her encounter with the Angel. The emphasis in her story then, should be upon the Father, who has a long history of choosing the insignificant to accomplish the impossible. If God could use a humble peasant girl like Mary then surely He can use us too.
“The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, ‘Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.’”
— Luke 1:27-28 (NIV)
Lord Jesus, I have nothing special to offer you but I give you what I am. Let me be of service to You and Your people. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
