If we want to have a blessed life Peter tells us to “Turn away from evil and do good” (1 Peter 3:11). What, you may be wondering, is evil? Evil is anything that exalts self above God, anything that seeks “my” way above God’s way. Evil is anything that exalts self above others. To do good means to love God passionately and to love others as you love yourself. Peter sums it up by saying:
“Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.”

Lord help us turn from evil and do good. Amen.
