Based on Scripture and experience I would like to suggest that God speaks to us in one of three or four ways or some combination thereof. The most common way the Lord speaks to us is through the Bible—His divinely inspired Word. A second way the Lord speaks to us is through the inner prompting of our spirit. A third way He speaks is through godly people. The fourth way the Lord speaks is through mystical experiences like dreams, visions, and prophecy. The Scripture is the plumb line by which we judge every other “word” we receive. If it does not line up with Scripture we must reject it.

Lord Jesus, speak to us for we cannot live without a word from You. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
