Between Jesus’ death on Friday and His resurrection on Sunday was what I call the longest day. For two nights and a day those who were closest to Jesus wrestled with their tormenting thoughts. Was Jesus just a man, an extraordinary man to be sure, but still just a man? His death seemed to prove that. Yet, if He was the Son of God as He claimed, what does His death mean? Is God now dead? Has evil triumphed over good? The answers were beyond them. When Jesus died all their hopes and dreams died with Him, but that’s not the end of the story.
“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!”
— Luke 24:5-6 (NIV)
Lord Jesus, remind us that even when it seems all hope is gone Sunday is coming. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
