All of us have known friendships destroyed by anger, as well as parent/child relationships, not to mention marriages. I am convinced that nothing, other than infidelity, kills love faster than out of control anger. As children we used to say, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.” Now we know better. “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but angry words can kill me.” Well did the wise man say, “Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing (Proverbs 12:18).
Are you giving vent to your anger or are you speaking words of life to your relationships?
“Words kill, words give life;
— Proverbs 18:21 (MSG)
they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”
Help us, Lord, to speak words of life and not death. In Your holy name we pray.
