Every word Jesus spoke from the cross was filled with emotion but none more so than the words He spoke to His mother. John records it this way, “Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her. He said to his mother, ‘Woman, here is your son.’ Then to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother.’ From that moment the disciple accepted her as his own mother” (John 19:26-27 MSG). Although Jesus was in unspeakable agony as He laid down His life to save our lost race, He still felt compassion for His mother and took time out to provide for her future.
“Jesus understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do.”
— Hebrews 4:15 (NLT)
Lord help us to remember that the compassion You felt for Your mother is the same compassion You feel for us. Amen.
