The Bible records three messages written by the finger of God. Three messages containing a summary of the salvation story—holy requirements, human failure and divine grace. The ten commands detail the requirements of God’s holy law—unattainable. The message written on the wall of King Belshazzar’s palace was a message of impending judgment—““Tekel means ‘weighed’—you have been weighed in God’s balances and have failed the test” (Daniel 5:27 TLB). The message Jesus wrote on the ground (John 8:6) is our only hope. It is the message of grace.

“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”

— Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)

Lord Jesus, write Your message of grace on our hearts. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
