My initially trek through the valley of the shadow of death was accompanied by a horde of questions for which I could find no answers. There in the darkness I wrestled with the Lord, pleading for understanding. I was convinced that if I could figure out why this tragedy had occurred, I could make peace with it. No matter how desperately I prayed I never received an answer. Instead of answers the Lord gave me the gift of His presence. The good shepherd of my soul walked through that dark place with me and His presence comforted me.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ…who comforts us in all our troubles…”
— 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV)
Lord Jesus, be very near to those who are walking through dark places. Comfort them with Your near presence and give them strength to trust You. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
