I was only nine years old the first time I walked through the valley of the shadow of death following the untimely passing of my baby sister. I was too young to fully understand the tragedy that had befallen our family, but I knew that my heart hurt and an overwhelming sadness had taken up residence in our home. So how did we survive those dark, grief-stricken days? The good shepherd was with us and He comforted us. His presence did not take our grief away, but it did give us the strength to bear it and He will do the same for you.

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

— Psalm 23:4 (NIV 1984)

Lord Jesus, only Your abiding presence gives us the strength to bear our grief. Abide with us this day and every day. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
