You can’t be close friends with everyone no matter how much you might like to. It’s simply not possible. You do not have the time or emotional energy. So, what can you do? You can strive to be real, to be emotionally present, each time you interact with a person. Trust that the gift of your presence will affirm them even if that is all you have to give.
