Although believers do not normally give fasting the same attention they give prayer and Bible reading, the Scriptures put it in the same category. Arthur Wallis writes in God’s Chosen Fast, “Neither did Jesus say if you as though fasting were something the disciples might or might not be led to do…He stated unambiguously and without qualification, ‘When you fast…’ He left us in no doubt that He took it for granted that His disciples would be obeying the leading of the Spirit in this matter of fasting.”
“When you fast….your Father, who sees what is done is secret,
— Matthew 6:17-18
will reward you.”
Lord Jesus, give us the discipline to fast regularly as part of our devotional life. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
