In 1921 David and Svea Flood went as missionaries to what was then the Belgian Congo. A short time later Svea died after giving birth to a baby daughter. In despair David buried his wife, gave his daughter to another missionary couple, and returned to Sweden feeling like a failure. Years later that baby girl and her husband were attending an evangelism conference in London when the superintendent of the national church in Zaire, representing some 110,000 baptized believers, gave an address. Following his presentation Aggie asked him if he had ever heard of David and Svea Flood. “Yes, madam” he replied. “Svea Flood led me to Jesus Christ!”

“Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over.”

— John 12:24

Lord Jesus, help us to keep believing even when the harvest is delayed. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
