After escaping from Egypt, Moses led Israel into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled without finding water before arriving at Marah. There was water at Marah, but it was so bitter they could not drink it. In desperation Moses cried unto the Lord and the Lord showed him a tree. When Moses threw that tree into the bitter water it became sweet (Exodus 15:25 KJV).
This is a prophetic picture of the cross and what Christ has done for us. If we will cast the cross into the bitter waters of our life God will make them sweet. No matter what you have done or what has been done to you the cross is the answer!
“Christ redeemed us from that self-defeating, cursed life by absorbing it completely into himself. Do you remember the Scripture that says, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”? That is what happened when Jesus was nailed to the cross: He became a curse, and at the same time dissolved the curse….”
— Galatians 3:13-14 (MSG)
Lord Jesus, plant the cross deep in the tormented soil of our soul. Break the curse and deliver us from all hurt and bitterness. Amen.
