If all we knew about God was the story of Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11) who lied to the Holy Spirit and fell down dead we would be forced to conclude that God is harsh and vindictive, or at least merciless, but that’s not true. God is just to be sure, but He is not without mercy. He is both a loving Father pinning over His rebellious children and a righteous judge. God is both just and merciful, both infinite and intimate, all powerful and all loving.
“He [God] has set a day when he will judge the world with justice…”
— Acts 17:31 (NIV)
Lord, help us respect Your righteous judgement even as we glory in Your unconditional love. Amen.
