Although only God can forgive sin, I am convinced that secret sin can only be overcome by confessing it to another person as well as to God. Sin flourishes in the dark, it thrives in secret; but expose it to the light through honest confession to a fellow believer, and it withers and dies. In Psalm 25 David prayed:
“Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love,
— Psalm 25:6-7 (NIV)
for they are from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth
and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me,
for you, Lord, are good.”
Lord Jesus, help Your church to become what You intended it to be—an accepting fellowship that loves unconditionally and forgives freely. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
