In the end adultery always produces death—death to the adulterer’s spiritual life, death to his marriage and death of his self-respect. He knows that he is not the faithful husband and godly father he appears to be. He is not the spiritual leader or the man of integrity his friends think he is. As one adulterer so poignantly put it, “It’s a terrible thing to know that you are not the man your family and friends think you are.” Yet, as tragic as adultery is, the grace of God is greater still. Through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ, God has made a way to forgive the adulterer and to reconcile him to Himself.
“This is GOD’s Message:
— Isaiah 1:18 (MSG)
“If your sins are blood-red,
they’ll be snow-white.
If they’re red like crimson,
they’ll be like wool.”
Lord, forgive us I pray, break our stubborn self-will and deliver us from our sinfulness. Amen.
