If pure motives were a requirement for Kingdom work, then most of us would be disqualified. Our motives are a mixed bag at best, at least mine are. Personal ambition exists side by side with Kingdom motives. I’m never sure if I am motivated by a sincere desire to see Christ glorified or if I’m working to advance my ministerial career. Thankfully the Lord can work through us even if we have mixed motives. Nonetheless I will not be satisfied until the Lord has purified my motives and crucified my carnal ambitions.

“Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ…”

— 2 Corinthians 5:9-10 (NKJV)

Lord, do Your holy work in us even as You work through us. Amen.
