Often what separates faith from presumption is timing. The person who is operating in faith does not act until the Lord speaks. The presumptuous person gets ahead of God. He acts before the Lord speaks. He assumes the Lord will rescue him even if he is acting in zeal without knowledge. Unfortunately, the Lord does not often intervene on our behalf when we act presumptuously. As the wise man wrote, “A man’s own folly ruins his life, yet his heart rages against the Lord” (Proverbs 19:3 NIV 1984).
“It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way.”
— Proverbs 19:2 (NIV 1984)
Lord, teach us to wait for your timing no matter how long it takes. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
