The tempter’s ultimate goal is not simply to solicit our disobedience, but to discredit the character of God. Satan is pleased when he can lead us into sin, but that is a small thing compared to discrediting God. Sins can be forgiven, the wandering soul restored to fellowship, but if Satan can poison our hearts against God, we may be lost forever. To that end, he applies all of his evil genius.

for we are not ignorant of his devices.”
Lord Jesus, protect us from the lies of the devil lest he distort the truth about God and poison our hearts and minds. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
