Another leadership principle gleaned from Moses is what I call the principle of shared ministry. Moses selected capable men, honest God-fearing men, to serve with him (see Exodus 18:21). We see the same principle in the New Testament when seven deacons were selected to oversee the distribution of food to the widows. When selecting your team, you are looking for individuals who demonstrate spiritual maturity, sterling character, and competence. One word of caution. Be careful not to be seduced by a person’s competence. Without spiritual maturity and character competency is of little value.

“Select able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness. So it will be easier for you, for they will bear the burden with you.”

— Exodus 18:21-22 (NKJV)

Lord, give us wisdom and discernment as we select our team. Amen.
