The tempter’s ultimate goal is not simply to solicit our disobedience, but to discredit the character of God. Satan is pleased when he can lead us into disobedience, but that is a small thing compared to discrediting God. For, to borrow the words of Dr. Haddon Robinson, “Once the well is poisoned, all the water is polluted.” To that end the enemy attempts to poison our minds against God. Disobedience can be forgiven, but if he can poison our hearts against God we may be lost forever.

“One day [Satan] asked the woman, Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”

— Genesis 3:1 (NLT)

Lord, renew our minds lest we believe Satan’s lies. Amen.
