Are we called to live a godly life and abstain from fleshly lust that wars against our soul (1 Peter 2:11 NIV)?
Absolutely!
A godly life is irrefutable evidence that the righteousness of Jesus has been imputed to us. What makes us righteous, however, is not our lifestyle, but the sinless life and the perfect righteousness of Christ that has been credited to us through faith in His finished work. The security of our salvation is in the finished work of Jesus Christ. The proof of our salvation is in the godly life we live.

Father God, help us to trust only in the finished work of Jesus Christ even as we put off our old sinful nature. Amen.
