Although Jesus was divine, He was also fully human when He lived among us—not carnal but human. Having been supernaturally conceived (see Luke 1:34 & 35) and born of a virgin (see Matthew 1:18-25) He was not tainted by original sin. He had no inherent sin nature, no predisposition to do evil. Still, as a full-fledged participate in our humanity (see Hebrews 2:14-18) Jesus did battle with the same temptations that torment us (see Hebrews 4:15). Chief among them was the temptation to prove His value as a person by His accomplishments. Luke describes it:
“…the devil said to Him, ‘If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.’ (emphasis mine).”
— Luke 4:3 (NKJV)
Lord deliver us from the temptation to prove our worth by what we do. Amen.
