To better understand our sin debt from God’s perspective, let’s take a closer look at the ten thousand talents the unmerciful servant owed. According to Bible scholar Finis Dake, a talent of gold, was worth $29,850, making ten thousand talents worth $29,850,000. David A. Redding gives a much more conservative figure, about two million dollars, still a staggering sum since the “total annual taxes of Judea, Idumea, Samaria, Galilee, and Perea, all together, amounted to only 800 talents.
“Lord, if you kept a record of our sins,
— Psalm 130:3 (NLT)
who, O Lord, could ever survive?”
Lord, we thank You for forgiving our staggering sin debt. Amen.
