The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10) and one of his favorite targets is marriage. Let me give you five early warning signs regarding temptation to have an extramarital affair. 1) A growing fascination with a person other than your spouse. Beware when that person regularly intrudes upon your thoughts. 2) A heightened sense of anticipation when you have an opportunity to be with that person. 3) A growing desire to confide in that person. Beware when you are tempted to share with that person the frustrations and disappointments in your own marriage. 4) An increased sense of responsibility for that person’s happiness and well¬ being. 5) Emotional distancing. Beware when you have an increasing need to keep your thoughts and feelings for that person secret from your spouse.

Lord help us to heed these early warning signs. Amen.
