In Gethsemane Jesus’ world was falling apart. He told His disciples, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.” So, what did He do? The first thing He did was ask for help. He pled with His disciples to watch and pray with Him (Matthew 26:38). The second thing He did was run to the Father. Matthew writes, “Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me’” (Mt. 26:39).
If your world is crumbling around you, do what Jesus did, run to the father and throw yourself on His mercy.
“But you, O Lord,
— Psalm 86:15 (NLT)
are a God of compassion and mercy,
…and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.”
Father God, You are our only hope. Have mercy on us we pray. Amen.
