Moses’ second attempt to deliver Israel from Egyptian bondage hardly went the way he expected. Instead of a miraculous deliverance things seemed to go from bad to worse.
So why did the Lord not intervene and immediately rescue His people? May I suggest two things? 1) If Pharaoh had not made their lives so miserable, they would have never been willing to leave Egypt. 2) Each time Pharaoh hardened his heart Moses performed another miracle and each succeeding miracle more firmly established him as God’s chosen one in the eyes of the Hebrews.
“But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
— Exodus 9:16 (NIV 1984)
Lord Jesus help us to submit to Your ways even when we don’t understand what You are doing. Amen.
