When Jesus teaches us to pray—“Give us this day our daily bread” (Mt. 6:11)—He is telling us that God cares about the smallest details of our lives. I spent many years serving small churches in remote rural areas and I know what it is to live by faith trusting the Lord to supply our daily needs. Once a wheat farmer sold some wheat in our name. Another time a rancher put half a beef in a meat locker for us. Another time a generous businessman put new tires on our car—“Daily bread.”

“‘I’m trying to get you to relax, not [to] be so preoccupied with getting so you can respond to God’s giving. [Do that and] you’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.’”

— Luke 12:29-31 (MSG)

Heavenly Father, give us this day our daily bread. Amen.
