If it seems you have fallen short of love’s high ideal, don’t be too hard on yourself. Almost no one loves with a Christlike love naturally, at least not at first. In the beginning even our “Christian” love is selfish. It seems we are always loving in ways that make us feel good, or in ways that make us look good rather than in ways that make others feel loved. Don’t give up! There is only one way to learn to be holy lovers and that’s by doing it. Now look around you and find somebody to love.

Lord Jesus, we want to be holy lovers, but we can’t do it without Your help. Help us we pray. Amen.
