Another reason many of us struggle to forgive those who have hurt us is because we mistakenly believe forgiveness is a feeling rather than an act of obedience. But if we wait until we “feel” like forgiving those who wronged us, we probably won’t ever get around to forgiving them. We do not forgive because we “feel” like it, but because the Lord commands us to forgive one another. When we act in faith and obedience the feelings will follow. Right actions always produce right feelings.
“For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins your Father will not forgive you sins.”
— Matthew 6:14-15 (NIV 1984)
Lord Jesus, help us to forgive those who have wronged us even though we don’t feel like it. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
